A female Grauer’s gorilla calmly observes the team as it approaches. The Grauer’s gorilla (also known as eastern lowland gorilla) is the largest of the four gorilla subspecies, narrowly beating its closest relative, the mountain gorilla. There are an estimated 2000-5000 left, all of them in eastern DRC.
